Understanding Regulations: CBD Oil California | iCBD blog

Cannabidiol, or CBD, was officially established as a legal substance by the federal government through the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018, which is typically referred to as the 2018 Farm Bill. This bill legalized the production and sale of hemp as long as the Tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, concentration is no higher than 0.3%. Because CBD oil contains less than 0.3% of THC, it is federally legal. Since then, each state has introduced their own regulations on CBD use, with CBD oil in California being one of the states that allow the most freedom in its guidelines.

In the state 0f California, the cultivation of CBD for commercial purposes with a government-approved license has been legal since 2017 through the California Industrial Hemp Farming Act. But, the state had to wait for federal action in order to take further steps towards full legalization. So, when the 2018 Farm Bill was passed, they were able to loosen their regulations and legalize CBD oil for recreational use statewide.

Here are a few things you should know about the regulations on CBD oil in The Golden State:

1. You must be 21 years or older to purchase or use CBD.

In some states, you only have to be 18 years old to buy CBD oil. In order to purchase and use CDB oil legally in California, on the other hand, you must be at least 21 years old. But, once you’ve reached 21, there are no further restrictions regarding how much you can buy or use.

Although some argue that the age requirement is too high, it was chosen because there is limited research on the impact of CBD on developing brains. Scientists believe that there is no longer a risk for negative effects of substances on development once an individual reaches 21 years of age, which is why it is also the legal age requirement for the consumption of substances like alcohol and tobacco. It is always possible that this regulation could change as more information and data becomes available.

2. CBD cannot be infused in food.

Another regulation regarding CBD oil in California is that retailers cannot sell CBD-infused food items. Because CBD has not been officially approved as a safe food additive by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), food infused with CBD oil legally cannot be sold for consumption.

It is possible that you have noticed CBD-infused food products being sold in California before - you may have even bought some before without knowing about this law! This is because the state does little to enforce these guidelines in specific counties, allowing many retailers to sell these products to customers without any legal issues.

3. You don’t need a prescription to purchase or use CBD.

Because CBD oil is legal for recreational use, you do not need a prescription to purchase or use it in the state of California. The only FDA-approved pharmaceutical CBD product is Epidolex, a prescription drug that is used to treat seizures associated with a severe form of epilepsy present in children. Although CBD oil has been proven to have amazing benefits, it’s important to be aware of the possible side effects it could cause.

You should always consult your doctor if you are pregnant, taking prescription medication, or have any other health concerns before using CBD oil.

4. CBD oil can be found almost anywhere in California.

Because of the popularity of CBD oil in California, you can purchase it almost anywhere. It can be found at grocery stores, gas stations, online shops, small businesses, corner stores – you name it! But, it is extremely important that you do your research on safe dosage amounts and ingredients before purchasing or using CBD.

Because some companies may not be clear about what’s in their products, you should look into the brand you’re purchasing from and make sure they’re legitimate. Read reviews, ingredients, and research their sources. If a brand is not transparent about the details and origin of their products, there’s a chance they’re hiding something and aren’t a legitimate brand.

CBD has not yet been approved by the FDA only due to a limited amount of data and research on it. As mentioned before, the only CBD product that has been approved by the FDA is Epidolex due to the life-threatening nature of the seizures it prevents. But, this does not mean that CBD is unsafe to use. It has a wide variety of medical benefits and a low risk of abuse or negative side effects.

CBD has been proven to effectively treat anxiety, depression, and physical pain. It’s also great for dogs! To ensure that you are purchasing safe CBD oil, look for brands that tell you everything there is to know about their products. Make sure you always do your research and listen to your body!
